These Are Arnold's Notes On:
"WHEN A DAY BEGINS 2".

The Hebrew words morning and morrow prove the 24hr day begins at evening for the following reasoning.

Ex-16th chapter says, 8. And Moses said, This shall be, when YHWH shall give you in the evening flesh to eat, and in the “morning” bread to the full;”
13. And it came to pass, that at even the quails came up, and covered the camp: and in the “morning” the dew lay round about the host.

These verses show how that MORNING is in the same 24hr time period as the evening because MORROW IS ALWAYS REFERRING TO THE NEXT DAY, And He did not say on the morrow you shall eat bread to the full, but in the morning you shall eat bread to the full i.e. the morning of the evening, not next day which would have to be the case if the day began at sunrise.
Morning is ALWAYS referring to the light part of the day, but morrow is the ALWAYS the next day, so by using the word morning instead of morrow, we can safely say that the 24hr day did not began at sunrise as some suggest or the word morrow would have been used instead of morning.

I have never seen conclusive evidence in scripture where morning referred to the next 24hr day, but I have seen where morrow or tomorrow referred the next 24hr day. The quail came at the evening of the 16th and the manna at the morning of the 16th.

Judges 19:8-9
7.And when the man rose up to depart, his father in law urged him: therefore he lodged there again. 8And he arose early in the morning on the fifth day to depart: and the damsel’s father said, Comfort thine heart, I pray thee. And they tarried until afternoon, and they did eat both of them.
9.And when the man rose up to depart, he, and his concubine, and his servant, his father in law, the damsel’s father, said unto him, Behold, now the day draweth toward evening, I pray you tarry all night: behold, the day groweth to an end, lodge here, that thine heart may be merry; and to morrow get you early on your way, that thou mayest go home. 10But the man would not tarry that night, but he rose up and departed, “

The man tarried until afternoon, and they did eat both of them, and he is told the day is almost over because the day draweth toward evenin,it was afternoon when he tries to get him to wait another day and leave tomorrow i.e. ALL tomorrows have an evening and morning, in that order, because when the day is almost over at evening, the morrow begins. It is evident in this case.

Brother Arnold

1st Samuel 5:3-4
3. And when they of Ashdod arose early on the morrow, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the earth before the ark of YHWH. And they took Dagon, and set him in his place again. 4And when they arose early on the morrow morning, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of YHWH;

In 1st Samuel 20:5-35 conclusively proves that the 24 hour day begins at evening. In the following we will see how that Jonathan and David had an appointed time to meat on the third day and with the day begins at sunrise theory it would be the fourth day instead of the third day when they met. Here's the account.

5. And David said unto Jonathan, Behold, to morrow is the new moon, and I should not fail to sit with the king at meat: but let me go, that I may hide myself in the field unto the third day at even. 6If thy father at all miss me, then say, David earnestly asked leave of me that he might run to Bethlehem his city: for there is a yearly sacrifice there for all the family.
Notice: the third day at evening has to be the end of the second day and the beginning of the third day because if you say the third day at evening is at the end of the third day then the next morning would Jonathan shot the arrows would surely be the fourth day when they met.

7. If he say thus, It is well; thy servant shall have peace: but if he be very wroth, then be sure that evil is determined by him. 8Therefore thou shalt deal kindly with thy servant; for thou hast brought thy servant into a covenant of YHWH with thee: notwithstanding, if there be in me iniquity, slay me thyself; for why shouldest thou bring me to thy father?

9. And Jonathan said, Far be it from thee: for if I knew certainly that evil were determined by my father to come upon thee, then would not I tell it thee? 10Then said David to Jonathan, Who shall tell me? or what if thy father answer thee roughly? 11And Jonathan said unto David, Come, and let us go out into the field. And they went out both of them into the “field”

12. And Jonathan said unto David, O YHWH Elohim of Israel, when I have sounded my father about to morrow any time, or the third day, and, behold, if there be good toward David, and I then send not unto thee, and show it thee; 13 YHWH do so and much more to Jonathan: but if it please my father to do thee evil, then I will show it thee, and send thee away, that thou mayest go in peace: and YHWH be with thee, as he hath been with my father.

Notice: tomorrow is referring to the first day of the new moon and this is when David's place was empty on the first day of the new moon feast, which is the second day of the three day count if you count the day they went into the field as the first day.

Now on the second day of the new moon feast David's place was empty again, which would be at the beginning of the third day if your count begins on the first day they went into the field and in the morning Jonathan rose up and went into the field at the Time appointed or third day and shot the arrows at the Time appointed. Remember David was to hide himself in the field until the third day at evening and if the third day at even was not referring to the beginning of the third day then the Time appointed would be on the fourth day if the day began sunrise/morning. It is obvious that these new moon feasts were in the evenings or the beginning of the 24 period, as is the case with The Day of Atonement and the seven days of unleavened bread.

18. Then Jonathan said to David, To morrow is the new moon: and thou shalt be missed, because thy seat will be empty. 19And when thou hast stayed three days, then thou shalt go down quickly, and come to the place where thou didst hide thyself when the business was in hand, and shalt remain by the stone Ezel. 20And I will shoot three arrows on the side thereof, as though I shot at a mark. 21And, behold, I will send a lad, saying, Go, find out the arrows. If I expressly say unto the lad, Behold, the arrows are on this side of thee, take them; then come thou: for there is peace to thee, and no hurt; as YHWH liveth. 22But if I say thus unto the young man, Behold, the arrows are beyond thee; go thy way: for YHWH hath sent thee away.”

Notice: David had to go on the third day to the stone Ezel and wait for Jonathan to come and shoot the arrows, and with the sunrise theory, it would have been the fourth day, and Jonathan was to come on the third day at the Time appointed which would still be in the new moon day when David went to the temple and ate the show bread and that's where Saul's chief shepherd, Doed, saw David which proves it was a new moon day because Saul's chief shepherd would have been at work if it had not been a new moon day and the gates open (Ezekiel 46:1)

23. And as touching the matter which thou and I have spoken of, behold, YHWH be between thee and me for ever.

24. So David hid himself in the field: and when the new moon was come, the king sat him down to eat meat. 25And the king sat upon his seat, as at other times, even upon a seat by the wall: and Jonathan arose, and Abner sat by Saul’s side, and David’s place was empty. 26Nevertheless Saul spake not any thing that day: for he thought, Something hath befallen him, he is not clean; surely he is not clean. 27And it came to pass on the morrow, which was the second day of the month, that David’s place was empty: and Saul said unto Jonathan his son, Wherefore cometh not the son of Jesse to meat, neither yesterday, nor to day?

Notice: this second day of the month/new moon was the third day at evening.

To

28. And Jonathan answered Saul, David earnestly asked leave of me to go to Bethlehem: 29And he said, Let me go, I pray thee; for our family hath a sacrifice in the city; and my brother, he hath commanded me to be there: and now, if I have found favour in thine eyes, let me get away, I pray thee, and see my brethren. Therefore he cometh not unto the king’s table. 30Then Saul’s anger was kindled against Jonathan, and he said unto him, Thou son of the perverse rebellious woman, do not I know that thou hast chosen the son of Jesse to thine own confusion, and unto the confusion of thy mother’s nakedness? 31For as long as the son of Jesse liveth upon the ground, thou shalt not be established, nor thy kingdom. Wherefore now send and fetch him unto me, for he shall surely die. 32And Jonathan answered Saul his father, and said unto him, Wherefore shall he be slain? what hath he done? 33And Saul cast a javelin at him to smite him: whereby Jonathan knew that it was determined of his father to slay David. 34So Jonathan arose from the table in fierce anger, and did eat no meat the second day of the month: for he was grieved for David, because his father had done him shame.

35. And it came to pass in the morning, that Jonathan went out into the field at the time appointed with David, and a little lad with him.

Notice: morning is always in the same day as evening the word MORROW is used when referring to the next day.

Hope this helps

Brother Arnold

Shalom all,

When He said, “let there be light, ” and there was light, why could not the moon be that light on one side of the earth/evening and then and the sun that was on the other side of the earth came around and then the evening and then the evening morning were the first day?
I believe the moon and sun could have been the light on one side of the earth and came around to where He was speaking from and there was evening and there was morning the first day.
The reason I believe that the darkness that the light was divided from is the darkness that was here in the beginning instead of the darkness that would come after, is because the darkness that was upon the face of the waters was the only darkness mentioned and therefore the light was divided from “it”, not some future darkness as seems to be suggested.

When a 24hr period ends another begins, and this it true from day 1 when WHYH said, “let there be light” the light would end the darkness on one side of the earth for 12hrs. If this light was the beginning of the 24hr period and the next evening belonged to it instead of the previous darkness, it still “would not” prove the day begins at sunrise because when the light struck the earth on one side for 12hrs, the other side had 12hrs of evening/dark BEFORE it had it’s 12hrs of light, making a 24hr period, i.e. AFTER there 12hrs of darkness and THEN there 12hrs of light. It would depend on what perspective the author saw it.

If the light began on one side of the earth, when He said let there be light, the other side would have 12 hours of evening/dark before that light came around to it and they could say the evening and the morning was there first 24hr day.

On the other hand, the side of the earth that received light first and then the darkness rolled around to it could say the morning and the evening was the first 24hr period, but we cannot deny the fact that the other side of the earth had 12 hours of darkness before the light rolled around to them for 12 hours.

It seems to me that this must be conclusively proven one way or the other before anyone can say what side of the earth YHWH was speaking from, i.e. was the side of the earth that was dark and said let there be light which appeared on the opposite side and came around to Him, or vice versa?

I personally believe that Adam was created west of the sun’s rising and carried east, toward the rising of the sun and placed in the garden that YHWH planted.

I will not get into all that but I would like to know how anyone can conclusively prove what perspective the author is speaking from when YHWH said “let there be light”. This must be answered before the discussion can correctly continue.

Even on day 4 when 72 hrs have passed and a new day begins whether at sunrise or evening, depending on one side of the earth you are on, it is the 4th sunrise on one side of the earth and a 4th evening on the other and therefore the fourth 24 hr day began at sunrise for one half of the earth and at dark on the other. Is this True or False? please let me know.

Before you answer, remember the day begins anew as in the beginning BECAUSE 3 complete days or 72 hrs have already passed and in fact it is the beginning of a day AND a night again some where on earth.

Our Roman mentality and the International Date Line makes us think that a 24 hr day ends on one side of the earth and another 24hr day begins on the other BUT why can’t it be day 93 or day 50 million all over the earth at the same time??? After all one half of the earth is no older than the other, when speaking of 24 hr periods, the earth is the same age all over. The question is, which side of the earth starts the count for the 24hr day, when in reality one side is in its 4th night waiting for it’s 4th light while the other side is in it’s 4th light waiting for it’s 4th night. Same age.

Judging from the sun and moon of today, when the light first appeared on earth in creation, whether on day 1 or day 4, it is an absolute that one side of the earth got 12 hrs more light than the other side and one side got 12hrs more darkness than the other.

i.e. if the light came before the darkness on one side of the earth, then rolled around to the other side that was dark, the darkness came before the light on one side and the light was before darkness on the other side. Is this right or wrong?

If it is right, how can we be sure which side the count begins on with ought going to the examples in scripture?

Is it possible you are right about the light being first on day one in creation and then on day 4 when He placed these lights in the ferment to be for days, years, appointments etc, that He allowed time to be reckoned from evening on the other side of the earth?

Please explain why in Judges 14:12-18 Samson gives some men 7 days to guess the answer to his riddle and because they could not figure it out, they pressed his wife sore for the answer before the seven days were over?

Carl responded:

Troy, what is the problem here? Just says before sundown on the seventh day. Please refer to Gen. 1:5.

Indeed it does. The seven "day" test ended after the sun went down. Why the urgency to have the answer before the sun went down if they had another 12 hours or so until dawn to come up with the answer? Carl, there has to be an ending point to this seven day riddle. Unless you can prove that these men could only guess the answer during the daylight hours of the seven Yoms (the Hebrew word used) then you have a case. But if these men could also guess during the dark half of these seven Yoms, then this proves even to even, not dawn to dawn.

I originally wrote: "So the men of city said to him [Samson] on the seventh day before the sun went down..." If they had given Samson the answer after the sun went down, what then? In context, they would have lost the challenge, so the days end at even. And I say that without adding or diminishing aught from the context or language of this passage.

Please explain why the feast of unleavened bread in Exodus 12:18 begins at even of the 14th day and lasts until even on the 21st day if the days are from dawn to dawn? See Leviticus 23:5, Numbers 9:3, etc.

Carl responded:

How many time do I have to explain this? Passover is the 14th. The 1st of Unleavened Bread is the 15th.

I have never said Passover wasn't Abib 14. Passover and Unlevened Bread are used interchangeably all over Scripture as it was an 8 day stretch. I probably shouldn't have written it thus, rather I should have said that Unleavened Bread began at even on Abib 15. Either way, it begins at even, not dawn, which you still did not address.

I originally wrote: Please explain why Day of Atonement in Levitucus 23:32 is to be celebrated from even to even if the days are from dawn to dawn? Don't use Leviticus 23:32 as your proof text because Leviticus 16:29, Leviticus 23:27, Leviticus 25:9, Numbers 29:7 all say that we are to afflict our souls on the tenth day (not the ninth) or simply that the day of atonement is on the tenth day, not the ninth.
